Making Due With What You Have

Tuesday afternoon, I will be preaching at a local nursing home. They have been locked down for over a year but they have made a way to have two short worship services. As a result, there are some time restrictions, and my usual paintings will not work. Still I want to give the people a visual with my message. So I did the next best thing. I got out my large pad of paper and a box of Crayolas from the children’s ministry and made a piece in advance. It didn’t take long at all, but I got something that will help the people see my point, and isn’t that what it’s really all about. That’s the thing, are Crayolas the most professional medium in the world? Of course not, but they are close to being the most available. And sometimes that’s what matters most.

Friends creativity is more than just making art. Sometimes creativity is about taking what you have on hand and putting it to work to do something. We will not often have ideal conditions where everything lines up and we have exactly what need to do exactly what we want to do. At that point we have two choices. We can give up or we can get creative. I will always lean toward getting creative. Do what you can with what you have and give God the glory. You’ll be surprised with what God can do.
