This year I decided to participate in the Brooklyn Art Library’s Sketchbook Project. All the entries will become part of a touring exhibit and then be placed permanently in their collection. There were numerous themes to choose from. The one that suited me best was Heroes and Villains. I just finished the cover of the book and thought I would share it here.

I’m not sure where the whole book will go yet but the cover shows the general idea. the ultimate battle between the ultimate hero and the ultimate villain. My goal is to show that nearly every great hero of nearly every great story shares attributes of the hero of the greatest story ever told. The secondary theme is to remind people that each of us is in a battle against the same opponent. My hope is that this piece will at least get people to consider Jesus as the hero of their story.

When the book is finished I will post it in its entirety.

This is just another example of a way an artist can use his gift to tell the story of Jesus. How will you use your gift?

  1. I am doing the Sketchbook Project 2012 too! I’ve been working on mine a little at a time since July. I have so much more to go, enjoying the process! I chose “Writing on the Wall”. When I complete mine I’ll upload it to my blog too. Looking forward to seeing your completed sketchbook, I hope to have mine finished by Jan 2012 since I have to mail mine from Japan to get there in time. So glad you are doing this too. Your title selection does fit you to a “T”! Joy in Jesus

      Hi Victoria,
I look forward to seeing yours too. I too hope to finish my book by January too. I’m hoping to complete my a year in art project with some of it. I won’t be doing that next year. I have a new year-long mission in mind.
