creativesuniteIt happens every time I write it and on a site for creatives, I write it a lot. It’s the word “creatives.” Every time I type creatives, spell check either autocorrects it and messes me up or it places a squiggly red line under it, just to annoy me. I guess it’s not a real word, but it should be.

I use it as a catch all word. I used to use artists, but some people see that as being everyone involved in any art form, while others see that as only those of us who make visuals. Beyond that there are many creatives who are not involved in the arts or at the very least would balk at being called artists. Of course many people also don’t consider themselves creatives. Those people are wrong.

The truth of the matter is everyone has the capacity to be creative, whether they are artistic, in the traditional sense, or not.  All of us have something to say, all of us have something to show the world, all of us have a problem to solve, and most of these things will never be done the way things have always done. We need to change our thinking. We need to realize that there is a solution to the problem, there is a way to get the message out, there is a way to share what we have with those who will benefit from what we make or do. We just need to find the way. Finding the way is a huge part of creativity and all of us need to get creative. To be creatives.

Spell check and autocorrect may get this wrong, but we can’t afford to.

You are a creative and we need you. Apply your best self to your work, to the problem and press on creatively until the problem is solved.

Creatives unite!
