I want this site to be more than just me loading what I think onto the “inter-webs” I want this to be a place of encouragement, inspiration and information that will help people who want to use their creative gifts to serve the Lord. What are your struggles? Problems? Where are you stuck? Do you need an idea? Maybe a way to open the door to your ministry in the local church. Whatever you need, I want to be here for you.

Or maybe you’re a church leader. You don’t necessarily consider yourself to be creative (you’re wrong about that by the way, but for now baby steps…) and you want to empower and encourage the creatives in your midst. I’d love to help you too. Contact me and lets see what we can do. Finally maybe you need someone to come into your church (or camp, or school) or whatever to demonstrate some of whats possible while powerfully and creatively sharing the Gospel for a special program or workshop. I can help you with that too. Contact me and let’s work together to help the church to be the most creative place in your community to the glory of God.

I’m here for you. Contact me in the comments below or at

So every day when I go on social media (anti-social media of late) I see all these people posting all these passionate memes about causes that just seem to keep these people awake at night. I’m sure I’ve been guilty of this too at times, and the irony that I made this post in the form of a meme is not lost on me, but here’s the thing. Anyone with a computer, or other web enabled device, and it’s even easier to repost someone else’s meme, but what does that accomplish.

I’m increasingly aware of the fact that we live in a generation that lives under the mistaken impression that talking about something is the same as doing something. It’s NOT. Posting something is easy, and maybe it will generate a little awareness, but more than often it just adds to the ugliness, but what if we took our passion and actually did something that would help someone else? Wouldn’t that be better? I think it would.

You might be asking what I am doing? Well the answer is probably not enough (I always feel like I could do more) and yet I am doing some things. I am not going to list them here that would sound like boasting and that’s not what I’m supposed to be about. Suffice it to say I am putting feet to my faith in the ways that present themselves and you should too. Everybody talks about how someone should do something. I’ve been in this world long enough to realize that someone is usually me and you. Maybe we need a few less memes and a little more me… You know, like in “”Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

This happened at the zoo in Zurich. It’s a friendly reminder of what we should probably do when someone needs our help.

Don’t forget… Some Days We Could Use a Few More Elephants.

It was frustrating beyond belief. I think stress and self-control are close friends and sometimes I will confess I envy those who can explode and move on. Then I remember self-control is a fruit of the Spirit and stress probably also comes when I forget who is in control and try to fix the unfixable in my own power. There are times when this life is profoundly unfair and times when the hypocrissy in our world would be laughable if it didn’t hurt so much. I think we all get there on occasion and it’s in those times we need to refocus.

Today a friend joked that she got through most of the season without hearing this song. Well I have somehow managed to get through 50 years without hearing it so I looked it up. All I can tell you is, for a man who needed perspective, this was a good find. This is Newsong telling a better story…

Look guys, this world is profoundly broken, so broken that the only one who can fix it is Jesus. He is our only hope, so those of us who know Him must tell the story. We should not be surprised if we are hated for it, He promised we would be. We should not be surprised that life is unfair, He was perfect and was murdered for His trouble. He is the one who calls us to a better story. He is the one who calls us to create and encourage. Discouragement and fear are tools the enemy uses as he tries to strangle the last bits of good from this world. We only lose when we quit.

The song reminds us that the world is full of people much worse off than we are, people who could use a little help, a kind word, and the blessing of the One who came to set us free. When we get caught up in the mess the world is in, we forget to be the solution. So stay on task and on target. We need to be help and hope and love in a world of hate. There is a war going on and, like it or not, we are in it. No matter how it looks, we win.

So go out there and love somebody! Tell a better story and live a better story.

First let me say how much I appreciate your reading and following this blog. It regularly gets between 50 and 100 hits a day and sometimes much more. You are reading from all over the world and that excites me. I prayed that God would expand my territory and He has.

That being said, I want this site to be the most useful, God-glorifying arts ministry site it can be, and I could use your help. What can I do to make it better? What can I do to make it great? What questions do you have that need answering? Where do you need a fresh idea? What do I need to know? What would generate more comments? What would make it more worth sharing with your friends? How can I better support creative ministries and artists who want to glorify God? What resources would you like to have?

One of the things I’ve learned in ministry is the best thing to do is answer the questions people are actually asking. I want to make these posts the thing you look forward to every day when you open your email. Like a little present every morning that help you take on your creative day serving God.

Help me by telling me, how can I help you?

Any input you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,
I would really love to expand the reach of this blog. You may have noticed that I have made the blog the amokarts website now to keep it new and keep it fresh. I basically want this blog to do two things (besides glorifying God) I want it to be a place where Christian creatives can come for support, ideas, help and encouragement and I want it to be a place church leaders can come and find resources to reach their communities and empower the creatives in their midst.

One of the best ways to do that is for those who are regular readers to tell their friends about the site. Share the posts, repost them, retweet them, email your friends and tell them what you get out of being a part of this community.

Also please remember, I am here to help you. Whether you want me to come to your event in person or just have a question that can be handled via email please contact me.

Lastly, if you have ways I can be more helpful to people, I’d love to hear them and will do what I can to put them into action.

I have a new online friend who is a missionary in Serbia who is wanting to use art to serve the Lord there. I plan on helping with what I can do from here, and I have referred her to others. I know some members of the AMOKArts tribe are in Europe. If any of you could come alongside her in person that would be great. For the rest of us, we can pray for her, share with her via the web, etc. Let’s see how we can help her out.

Her name is Pam. Here’s what she wrote.

Hi Dave,
My name is Pam. My husband, Mike and I are living in Serbia. Ten months ago we
felt God’s call to leave our home in Ft. Worth, Texas and to come serve here in
Eastern Europe with a mission organization. I have been praying about how God
would use me in ministry here as it is so different from the U.S. I am an
artist also and want to open an Art Center/Studio as an avenue to minister to
people. Because of this country’s past, there is a lot of negativism and
hopelessness in their thinking.
I am very excited to find your website as you can imagine. It speaks volumes
to what I’m envisioning here in Serbia. I haven’t found anyone that’s using the
arts to any degree here…which is kind of crazy as art has been so much of
their past. I’m not really sure where to begin. I guess any advice, ideas info
on workshops would be helpful. Do you know of any christian artist groups in
Europe? Thanks for your time.

If you can help, contact me or leave a comment here and I will connect you.

In a related topic, this tribe also exists to help you as you seek to use your gifts for the Lord, what can we do for you?
