Every year, it is my honor to be a part of a great ministry called Haven Camp, held by Delta Lake Bible Conference in Rome, NY. Haven Camp is a week long summer camp for Adult’s with developmental disabilities. It is such a joy to me, and it’s a huge undertaking, so I am getting started. Our theme this year is based on Isaiah 40:31. “Those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. They will mount up on wings like eagles, “but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” So how do I start a project like this. Well, of course we begin with prayer. Then I begin to plan out the eight sessions by figuring out topics to go along with the theme. I begin to select texts for each passage, and because I utilize art in my presentations, I begin to figure out images that will make sense to the campers. Remember this is not about art for art sake, the art is a tool to “draw” the people in to the story. I need to come up wit things that fits the topic and that I can render in acrylic paint in less than ten minutes. From there sketches and study begin to flesh things out.
Graphically, one of the first things I do is create my logo for the week. This helps me to develop the other media for the sessions. This year, I am planning an animated bump that I will use at the beginning of each session. I don’t have a lot of the world done yet. but I have started to develop the graphics. Here is a sampling.
