Maybe It Doesn’t Need to Be Complex…

In the last few months, I have once again tried to start a creative ministry at my church. I had activities planned and grand visions of good things we could do as it grows. One of the things I knew from the start was that most of our growth for this group was going to come from outside the church. The first two session consisted of me and the couple I asked to help me. Neither of these people see themselves as being artistic, (I’m convinced they are) but they came along side me to help with this as a community outreach. On the third month another couple joined us, and it became this neat time of fellowship with a devotional. Last month the same group gathered again and on Tuesday night, we gathered once again, this time we were joined by three people from the church. In those first few months, I realized that it was probably best to put aside the grandiose plans I had, and simplify. This then is what I did. One of our women has a culinary gift. She has made her contribution for the evening some sort of entree or dessert, deliciously exercising her creativity. Then we gather around a large table for a devotion that sets the tone for the evening, and for the next hour and a half we eat, talk about God, life and the topic of the devotional as we work on out own projects and get to know each other. It’s becoming this cool time of creative fellowship that I think could gain some traction. I’m prayerfully looking forward to seeing what God does in and through us. I still have high hopes of doing some of these cool projects I have in mind, but for now we have something good going.
