Is the lens cap on? We are having some trouble with our media projector here at church. The secretary was helping me by looking up troubleshooting instructions for it online and that was the first question. “Is the lens cap on?” Now I know this is not the case, but my struggles continue. The reason for part of the struggle is the projector resides 15 feet off the ground hanging from the ceiling and it’s hard to get up there. A lot of problems would be solved if I could just get up there to get a closer look.
A question was asked about whether or not the remote I use to control the computer it’s projecting could be causing the problem. This of course is not the case, but when the word “remote” was spoken, a new thought occurred to me. The remote I use to turn the projector on and off is not 15 feet off the ground and sure enough the remote had some of the needed information printed right on it. There is still a lot more work to be done, but sometimes it’s the obvious. I was trying to figure out how to get a ladder ion to the room by myself to look for the model number, and there is was hidden in plain site. It should have been obvious.
Asking is the lens cap on sounds like a really stupid question. We are always looking for the complex solution to the complex problem, but how would you feel if after you tried to do all that difficult stuff it was the lens cap? Even if it sounds really stupid, the best move is to try the simplest, most obvious things first. This works in technology, but it also works in life. The Bible says, “The mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” If you find yourself in a negative place, check yourself. Are there negative words coming out of your mouth? Are you in a creative slump? Are you speaking things that betray negative beliefs about your creativity? Sometimes the most obvious solution is really the answer so start with the simplest solutions first. Maybe your “spiritual lens cap” is blocking out your light, keeping you from seeing the possibilities.
