I have a friend in my church who has some special needs. He’s a good guy and he asks some good questions. The title of this post was his question yesterday: “Why Does the Lord Work In Mysterious Ways?”
Of course the most obvious and truthful answer is, “I don’t know,” but I know my friend well enough to know he wasn’t going to accept that answer. It really got me thinking. I answered him by saying, “We don’t understand everything and we don’t know everything, right? Well God does. God knows everything that has already happened, what has happened and what will happen today and everything that is coming in the future. God always knows what’s best and does what is best, and He does the exact right thing every time. His ways aren’t mysterious to Him at all, they are mysterious to us because we don’t know everything. That’s why we have to trust Him and follow Him.” Of course that is me trying to write what I said from memory, but the response was very much like that, and to his credit, my friend accepted my answer and left it go.
Strangely, I couldn’t let it go. It’s been on my mind ever since, and I have been thinking of more and more examples. I’m starting to wonder if I have a new presentation in the works. Why do you think God works in mysterious ways? Can you give examples?
