Seal Breaker

Posted: April 16, 2021 in Uncategorized

One of the things I have longed to do for quite some time is to create the images from the book of Revelation. While these things are largely symbolic, my desire has been to paint them literally as they are expressed in the Word. I have taken numerous runs at it over the years, but making a cohesive collection has long eluded me. Perhaps this has to do with the fact that I started a painting expressing the 144,000, and with the busyness of life and the need to accomplish other things, the project has stalled. Regardless, I have been working on sketches here and there, and I have one here today.

In the book of Revelation, Jesus is referred to as the Lamb of God. What is unique in this expression is He is unlike any lamb you have ever seen. He has seven eyes and seven horns. Now the number seven is a number of completion, meaning he has unlimited vision and power, which we know to be true. In the passage He is given a scroll that only he can open. The scroll has seven seals and each of those seals represents a judgment that will fall upon the earth in the tribulation. This is a sketch of the piece I create, it’s called Seal Breaker. In the piece the scroll will be a passage from Scripture in Greek, with the Lamb’s face breaking through it. My plan is for the piece to be dimensional with the fragments of the scroll and the seals breaking out beyond the frame.

Here is the sketch. What passages of Scripture would you like to express artistically? Maybe today is the day to start.
