Now I’ve posted this question before to get people to share their current projects. That’s not what I’m doing today. Today I want to try to get you to think differently about your work. I was listening to the local Christian radio station this week and they are right in the middle of their fund drive, and they were speaking about how there are song that just happen to play at the right time and how God uses them to touch your heart. Nice sentiment, but I’ll admit it, sometimes in these fund drives, I just wish they’d get back to playing music. I know, I know, don’t judge me. Well I’ve been dealing with something pretty tough lately, kind of one of those “unspoken” prayer requests we hear about sometimes, sure enough, as if God was reminding me to not be so cynical and to just trust, the radio played the perfect song for my struggle. This song:

I started to sing along and the tears started to come. It was as if God was saying, “It’s okay David, I got this and I will redeem it. It was perfect timed for me in that moment, a gift from the Father to me in my time of need, but something else hit me. At some moment in time, the guys in Big Daddy Weave sat down to write a song. I bet a big part of them just felt like they were making art. I don’t know that they thought, God will use this song to speak to a 55 year old preacher who’s struggling. They might not have thought it, but that’s what happened. As believing artists, especially if we commit our plans to the Lord, there is a very real chance that God will anoint these creations to touch hearts and minds. Maybe we’re doing more than just creating art. Maybe we’re creating things that God will use in ways we can’t even conceive. Makes me want to look a little harder at how I use my precious creating time. How about you?

What are you creating? It might be a lot more than you think. It might even become a message of love from the Father.

“He who began a good work in you will carry if through to completion in the day of Christ Jesus.”
