wowThe old saying says “Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.” I’m here to tell you that is exactly correct and that thought is most helpful for those of us who create. I know this is a recurring theme with this blog, I also know it’s important to work through this because many people are afflicted by the voice of the critic. That voice that tells you you’re not good enough, that you’re work is inferior, that there is no point in keeping on with your creative work. Sometimes that voice is from the outside and sometimes it is internal.

How do you beat it? Simple. Create beauty. You say, I can’t. Of course you can, it’s in your own eyes. Create the best beauty you can create, then, and this is where the other beholder’s come in. Some people will NOT like your work. There’s no getting around them so you have o put them in two categories. The ones who can help you get better and the ones who just want to tear you down. Value the first and learn from them while ignoring the latter. Our purpose here is about making the best work we can and sharing it with the world. Not because everyone will love it but because some will. Those folks are the beholders. They think your work is beautiful. It will bless them and impact them and isn’t that why we really create.

It’s this simple. Create beauty… work that is beautiful to you, the first beholder then put it out there for the world to see and wait for the people who say WOW! Then smile and start creating something new.
