Not sure if he would have called this a prophetic word, but if prophecy is made valid when it comes to pass, I think he nailed it. Salvation Army Founder William Booth, at the turn of the 20th century had this to say…
I’d say he was pretty accurate, how about you? That being said, the real challenge is not whether or not this statement is true, but what the church of Jesus Christ will do about it. Remember, the church exists to worship God, reach those who do not yet know Christ and to equip believers for ministry (service). How can we turn the tide? How can we bring about revival? The first step is prayer.
The second is faithfulness.
Look at the quote again, most of changing this depends on the church being the church. “The chief danger that confronts the coming century will be religion without the Holy Ghost, Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration, politics without God, heaven without hell.”
We rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit and should be walking in His ways. Secondly, Jesus is Lord and as Lord, He needs to be followed, whether or not His ways line up with society’s ways (It often won’t). Chief among these ways is a call to repentance. We cannot go on in the things that He died to rescue us from. 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us quite clearly that Salvation comes with regeneration, i.e. salvation is supposed to change us. Politics without God??? In a nation that elects its leaders, we in the church need to realize that if we don’t like the look of the political establishment, the change will come from us. An electorate that does not follow christ is not likely to elect leaders who follow Christ and changing the electorate is the responsibility of those who have been entrusted with the Great Commission. And finally, we have had many people touting “Heaven is for Real” and that’s great, because it is, but so is hell, it’s a real place where real people go. It was not made for humanity, but for Satan and his angels. People will often say how could a loving God send people there. The reality is, He doesn’t. We choose it, when we choose to reject the One He gave to set us free. Church we need to be using all of our gifts to proclaim the One who sets men free from the power of death forever.
Most of the problems we face in this world can be solved if the people of God will rise up and be the Church. Scripture says “For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.” -Romans 8:19
Creation is waiting for us… What are we waiting for?
