There’s a commercial out right now, that features the Queen song I Want It All. In case you don’t know it, Here it is…

To be honest the main line of the chorus really resonated with me when I first heard the song several decades ago.

I want it all, I want it all, I want it all and I want it now.

It was 1989. I was a struggling artist trying to prove myself and trying to prove a point. I wanted it all and if possible, NOW! Looking back on my prayer life back then, I realize that was pretty much my prayer. Looking back at my work, I wasn’t ready. A lot of us as creatives, treat our lives this way. We know where we’d like to be, we know we’re not there yet, and we wonder why. Come to think of it, I doubt this is exclusively the realm of creatives. I think most everybody wants it all now. Credit card companies depend on it.

But the reality is most of us could not handle it all. And as people of faith, wanting it all is not on the table. What is on the table is faithfulness. Forget ALL are you being faithful with what you have today. Are you taking what you have been blessed swith and putting it to work or are you whining about what you don’t have? Faithfulness demands that we do the best we can with what we have and give God the glory.

The truth of the matter is, if you have Christ, you have it all. Scripture tells us we are joint heirs with Jesus, In other words, we own the Kingdom. We have it all. It’s a promise from God.

Paul explains it this way In Galatians 4:1What I am saying is that as long as an heir is underage, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. 2The heir is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. 3So also, when we were underage, we were in slavery under the elemental spiritual forcesa of the world. 4But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. 6Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” 7So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.

Our inheritance is sure. You have it all in Christ. You receive it all at the appointed time. In the mean time, serve faithfully!

Give God your best everyday with what you have and trust Him. There is more to come.
