I Could Sure Use Your Help… Don’t Worry It Won’t Cost You Anything!

hwIn a little over a month, I will be headed to Boise Idaho to be a part of the Creative Church Conference with my friends at VineArts Boise. I’ve been asked to be part of a panel discussion on blogging and social media and here’s where I need you. I have lots of things to say about how I use this blog and social media but what I need to know is:

How has this blog and the various other channels (Facebook, Youtube, etc.) of AMOKArts blessed or inspired you?

It would also be beneficial to know what I do well, what I could do better, how this blog could get more interaction, have greater impact, etc.

Please also keep me in prayer that I might be a blessing to everyone I can.

Anything you could give me would be most beneficial. Just leave your comments in the comments below.

Dave, I really appreciate your writing, and whenever I see something from you in my inbox I know it will more than likely be something I haven’t seen before, and something interesting. You are a great curator of content, and I’m thankful that you scour the internet for new, interesting and inspiring items for artists and others doing creative work.

Since you asked … here are a couple of ideas that I think would increase your impact even more:

    1. Move to a self-hosted WordPress site. It has a lot more flexibility, and you can utilize an email service like MailChimp. It has a TON of advantages, not the least of which would be getting to use the Disqus comment system. DaveWeiss.com is taken – maybe DaveWeiss.net or DaveWeissArtist.com – something like that? Just some ideas.

    2. Consider consolidating your various blogs/sites into one. You send out items from 2-3 different sites and it must be exhausting keeping up with all that. I think there is Creacher toons, Beware of Artists, this site, and maybe one more? (Sorry if I have my wires crossed.) Just wondering if you could make a bigger impact if you were focused on only one site.

    3. Consider guest posting on others’ sites, and having others do guest posts for your site. This would increase your visibility, connections and impact. You have GREAT content and I would love to see it get in front of even more people.

I am certainly no expert in any of this, and have made tons of mistakes with all this. I am in awe of the amount of content you produce. If there is any way I can help with any of this, please let me know.

      Hi Kent,
Why does all the great stuff come through when I am on vacation? I decided to unplug for a week so I missed this. I am in agreement on consolidation but to sure how to proceed. I started Beware of artists with the intent of using it for pursuing speaking opportunities with businesses and schools where my faith based stuff may be less appropriate. I really appreciate all your thought and input here. I am working through this and am unsure where it is al going to end up.
      God bless,
      Dave

Dave – I just sent the other email before I saw your reply here. I am happy to hop on the phone or Skype, etc. to help you think through any of this stuff. I really enjoy helping in that way.

  2. I agree with what Kent says. I know you want to keep AMOKarts name, too, so you could purchase your self-hosted Dave Weiss variation domain and have Amokarts forwarded to Dave Weiss. Since I’m a non-techie, I’m probably not describing it correctly, but that’s the way I understand/can describe it.

You have some unique material! Thank you for the encouragement to use our gifts for His glory!

Vonda, you have it all correct!

      Thanks Vonda,
I was unplugged and on vacation when this came in. I am trying to figure some of this tech stuff out right now. I had considered the different sites to be different venues for different aspects of what I do, but I am realizing how much work it is to keep everything going.
      Take care,
      Dave

    Hi Dave,

I rely on the email notification that comes to me with each new post you write. There is always something here to make me think and/or inspire me (even though I don’t always leave a comment!)

I like that you post a variety of material – an observation about your own life, a reflection on a Biblical passage, thoughts about creativity, examples of your art and examples of other artists’ work. There are times when I think you must have overheard me, because some of the posts deal with exactly what’s been on my mind!

So the blog helps and inspires with an uplifting message. Daily!

    Thanks.

      Hi Lynn,
This is wonderful to hear. I try to post things that will speak to my fellow creatives and help them take the next step on their journey.
Thanks for joining me on mine.
      Dave
