It starts off with a hard climb to reach a breathtaking high and almost as soon as you get there, the bottom falls out and you hit bottom. Then as soon as you hit bottom another force yanks you out of the valley to another height. Don’t get too excited about the top of the hill though, because you know what will probably happen next…

It’s been that kind of week. I had two really soaring highs then a crushing blow followed almost immediately by another great high. Life has it’s ups and its downs and we have to keep that in mind. God is good at the top of the hill and the bottom of the valley. Roller coaster rides are kind of fun, roller coaster lives, not so much. We can’t live for the highs, though we can enjoy them. We can’t fear the lows or we’ll never appreciate another high without spending all of our time anticipating the bottom falling out. Once your strapped in, the only option is to ride it out.

The one thing about the roller coaster we can appreciate is at the end of the ride we end up where we belong and so it is with a life in Christ. If we ride with Him, He will ride with us through the highs and lows and bring us safely home.
