In March, I will be working with a musician named John Waller at an event called Called2Ministry in Chattanooga, TN. I’ve been a fan of John’s for quite a few years and I am excited to do this conference and meet him. I was checking out his video for the song As for Me and My House and I noticed a video at the bottom of the page with the story behind the song. As I watched that video, I realized that while our roads have been different, we have something in common. There came a time in both our lives when our work became an idol. So as we look at the end of the year and our hopes and dreams for 2012, it might be wise to check yourself. Here John and his wife Josee tell the story. Please take the time to listen. It will be worth your time.

Here is the song born out of the story, As for Me and My House

Lastly, here is one more song from John, called Because God is Good. At the end of the video he shares a little more about this concept. The basic idea is “my life didn’t work out the way I thought it would because God is good. I, Dave Weiss, can claim that as my testimony as well. How about you?

As we approach the new year, check yourself. Is there something you need to leave behind. Take it to the cross and leave it there.

  1. Thanks for introducing me to John Waller. Lots to think about.

All well and good. It’s nice that Mr Waller can afford to make such a nice video, with shots from a helicopter and all.

But what do you say to people who are hurting, who feel that they have served the Lord with all their strength and all their might for years and years but have got nowhere. People who feel God has forgotten them, people who feel they have not heard from God in years. Whatever their reasons are, there are so many of them all around us.

These are the people we should spare a thought for at this Christmas time. People for whom Christmas is painful reminder of what being a Christian has cost them.

      Hi BGL,
As to Mr. Waller, well I can’t speak for him except to say this, he has had some level of success and found it was taking him in the wrong direction, so he repented and regrouped. This video is a call to everyone to check themselves to make sure that what we are doing for God is still really “for God.” While I have not reached his level of success, I have found myself in that place on many occasions, so I found this piece very helpful.

What do I say to people who are hurting and feel like they have served the Lord and gotten nowhere? I guess I would say I feel your pain. I started a church over 9 years ago and it has really struggled. We started at 7 people, grew to as many as 30, had an issue I had to address, and shrunk to15. I’ve preached to as few as four people on a Sunday and have wondered on many occasions, “What’s the point?” And about that time, once again, God proves himself to be faithful.

All I can say is God knows what you’re doing, He can see it and He loves you. Keep being faithful and trust Him. Your faithfulness will be rewarded. In Mark 10: 29 and 30 Jesus said “I tell you the truth,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.” He has you covered, He has never left you and He never will.

email me at amokarts@aol.com if you want to chat about this some more.
      God bless,
      Dave

Thankyou Dave.. you truly are a wonderful blessing. This was such good timing for my husband and I to seek how the Lord wants us to use our travels in our caravan. One dream is to go to outback towns with Christian books to sell at cheap prices, plus have worship times or Bible Studies at our caravan at the parks we stay in.

In answer to something you shared the other day…. it would be so nice to come and worship with you but….. I live on the other side of the world – here in Australia

      Hi Anne-Marie,
I love your Caravan ministry idea. Consider adding an art component to it. I have some art ideas you may be able to use on my AMOKArts.com site. Maybe you could even start AMOKAustralia :D One day I really need to get to Australia. I seem to be gaining a lot of friends there.
      God bless,
      Dave

Came here via my friend Joy’s Facebook. Thanks for sharing this testimony and music. What a humbling and beautiful experience! It brought tears to my eyes. May we all tear the idols down just like King Asa did all those years ago but continue to follow the Lord all our days. Sadly King Asa turned away from the Lord at the end of his life. I just read about that recently with my ten-year-old son and prayed with him that we would follow the Lord and seek Him all of our days, right up until the end!

Amen Sister, that is my prayer too. Joy is a dear friend of mine as well. We’ve worked together a few times including a pretty big project last Christmas. I need to get there again. Are you in arts ministry too? Subscribe to the blog. Lots of good stuff is coming in 2012.
      God bless,
      Dave

Dave, thank you for this reminder of whose we are. It’s easy for any of us to lose sight of that. God bless you!
