Worship Art: The Vine and the Branches

My friend Marcus Harden was the speaker at our district jr. high youth retreat here in PA. He was speaking on the topic of being green, but not in the environmental sense (though he did make some allusions to creation care). Rather he was talking about living a green life, by being connected to the vine, which is Jesus (John 15). My sole function for this weekend was to pick him up at the airport and take him for dinner. But at dinner we got into the topic of art ministry. He asked me if I intended to paint at the retreat and I replied that I hadn’t really considered it. He asked me if I would, so I did. I was trying to think of what to paint and came up with a very literal interpretation of the Scripture. I felt led to do a triptych covering the three main concepts of the passage: Connection to the vine, The Master Gardener pruning us and bearing much fruit.
This is what came out:

John 15

John 15

Sorry but your image is not showing up, nor has any shown up when ever you do a post like this, at least on my side of the world I can’t see it. I’m sure it is great anyway. God bless you.
